Our Story

Tom White Linear Park, also known as the Bike Trail, is a cornerstone of Moultrie and Colquitt County. Cyclists, walkers and joggers can enjoy 7.2 miles of meandering trails that extend from Downtown Moultrie to the community airport. As part of the "Rails to Trails" program, the linear park replaced the old railroad tracks and provides a scenic route for bikes and walking enthusiasts of all ages.

In 2025, the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority was awarded a Georgia Recreational Trails Program Grant through the Federal Highway Administration, allowing MCCPRA to complete much needed improvements to the trail. This grant, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR), and additional funding from MCCPRA's General Fund and T-SPLOST, will make vital improvements to the Tom White Linear Park like asphalt repair and striping, trail markings, updated trail signage, water fountains, landscaping, erosion control, new trash receptacles, and benches.

As part of the Trail of Legacy initiative, benches will be placed at scenic points along Tom White Linear Park to provide visitors with a quiet place to rest, reflect, and enjoy the natural beauty of the trail. Each bench serves as both a comfort to those who walk the path and a lasting tribute to the individuals, families, and organizations who help make this project possible. Whether honoring a loved one or celebrating a milestone, your sponsorship creates a place to rest, a legacy to remember.

Their Stories

Ellen Garrett Smith

Ellen Smith, known to many as Ma, left a legacy that lives on through her three children, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and the generations yet to come. A kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, and friend, Ellen spent her days finding ways to bless the lives of those around her. Sundays were often filled with laughter, family, and the comforting aroma of Ma’s famous home cooking. When she wasn’t caring for her family, Ellen could be found tending blooms with her Garden Club friends or walking three miles each morning with her lifelong best friend, Betty Rollins. The two rarely slowed down—much less stopped to rest—but if they had, they would have chosen this very bench. Here, they would have smiled and greeted passersby, soaking in the golden glow of the morning sun filtering through the trees.

We dedicate this bench to our Ma—a place of comfort, reflection, and rest for all who visit.
